RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team returns home to host Abilene Christian University on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Seating at UTRGV home tennis matches is limited to 25 fans. Limiting the capacity allows for proper social distancing among fans, staff, and student-athletes.
Face masks are required to be worn properly by all fans, media and staff present inside the Orville Cox Tennis Center. The CDC defines wearing a mask correctly as covering the nose and mouth and securing it around the chin, trying to fit in snugly against the side of the face. The CDC does not recommend using masks with an exhalation valve or vent. Neck gaiters, bandanas and similar items are not acceptable alternatives to face masks. Children ages 2 and under are not required to wear masks.
Restrooms at the Orville Cox Tennis Center will be closed to the public to limit access into the Tier 1 section.
Last Time Out
UTRGV had two matches last weekend as it faced off against Rice and No. 10 Texas A&M
The Vaqueros fell 0-4 to Rice and 0-7 to Texas A&M.
UTRGV was leading in a pair of matches against Rice as
Te Kani Williams won his first set 6-4 against Adam Oscislawski before his match was stopped in the second set.
Zane Kohrs was up a set on Trinity Grear after winning the first set 6-4. Kohrs was up 4-1 in the second when the match was stopped.
Mother Nature Changes Plans
UTRGV was scheduled to play Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia on Monday in Belton but the matches were canceled to due rain in the forecast.
UTRGV is looking into rescheduling those matches later this season if the opportunity presents itself.
Playing Abilene Christian
- Abilene Christian is 4-5 on the season.
- Abilene Christian is coming off of a 7-0 victory over McMurry University.
- Abilene Christian is on a four-match win streak defeating Texas Permian Basin, Trinity, Hardin-Simmons, and McMurry in that stretch.
- Abilene Christian is 22-27 in singles play while posting a 9-14 record in doubles.
- UTRGV is 5-7 all-time against Abilene Christian in a series that dates back to 1988.
- Abilene Christian won last year's matchup 7-0 in Abilene.
- UTRGV last defeated Abilene Christian on March 7, 2015 when it picked up the 4-3 win in Abilene.
