RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that junior Ahren Freeman, of the men's basketball team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Freeman averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last week as he helped the Vaqueros to wins over Southwestern Christian and Houston Christian. 
 
After scoring four points and grabbing six rebounds against Southwestern Christian, Freeman had a career game against Houston Christian. Freeman scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds with two assists. 
 
The 23-point performance was Freeman's fourth game in double-figures as he is averaging 9.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while shooting .661 (39-59) from the floor.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Dec. 29 when they open Western Athletic Conference play at Utah Tech at 8 p.m.
