Matt Figger announced on Friday the signing of 6-3 guard
Will Johnston for the 2022-23 season.
Johnston comes to UTRGV from South Georgia Tech with three seasons of eligibility remaining. This past season, Johnston averaged 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.7 steals while sporting a 2.1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, shooting 46.4% from the field, 38.3% from behind the arc, and 84.2% from the foul line in 33 games (33 starts).
In 2020-21, Johnston averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.5 steals while sporting a 1.8:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, shooting 37.5% from the field, 35.7% from behind the arc and 79.3% from the foul line in 22 games (21 starts).
Originally from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Johnston played a prep year at the Perkiomen School in Pennsburg, Pa. in 2019-20 after attending high school at The King's School.
"Will is a fierce competitor with a high basketball IQ," Figger said. "He's an everyday worker and he's about winning."

C.J. Jackson, 6-10 forward
Dima Zdor, 6-0 guard
Adante Holiman, and 6-7 forward
