RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team announced its fall 2022 schedule on Tuesday. 
 
The Vaqueros will open the fall season Sept. 22-24 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals in Fort Worth. UTRGV will head to San Marcos for the Texas State Invitational on Oct. 7-8. 
 
Head coach West Nott said the Vaqueros will face some of the best NCAA Division I players in the state at the ITA Regionals, hosted by TCU. He called the Texas State Invitational "the perfect event" for the team as they'll compete against other mid-major programs with similar talent, such as the hosting Bobcats, Incarnate Word and McNeese State. 
 
UTRGV's spring 2023 season is tentatively slated to begin Jan. 20. The schedule will be released at a later date. With five new student-athletes joining the squad, Nott wants to use the fall season to develop team chemistry and create healthy competition in practice in preparation for the spring season. 
 
"The first few weeks of practice and fitness will be about getting to know each player individually and building trust," Nott said. "I'm excited to see the team have the opportunity to challenge the best talent in Texas and see what we can learn along the way. We certainly want to see if we can take the program one step higher. We understand it will be extremely hard. The great news is I believe this team is up for the challenge and ready to put in the work required."
