RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team earned a resounding 6-1 win over the St. Mary's Rattlers (StMU) on Wednesday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
 
UTRGV (2-2) steamrolled the doubles competition, winning on all three courts to take the early 1-0 lead. Senior Chris Lawrance and sophomore Karlo Krolo got it started with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 flight, then junior Emilien Burnel and sophomore Sam Whitehead clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 1. Senior Te Kani Williams and freshman McAllen Memorial alum Agustin Salazar combined for a solid 6-3 win at No. 3. 
 
The momentum continued to roll even as the day got hot under a relentless sun. Burnel earned his second consecutive victory, defeating Daniel Matheu Baldor 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 1 flight. Whitehead also captured his second straight-set win in a row 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Williams made it 4-0 to clinch the victory with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4. 
 
Salazar and Krolo both earned their first career singles victories to make it 6-0 in favor of the Vaqueros. Salazar outdueled Nicolas Llosa on the fifth court, 6-4, 6-2, and Krolo picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2. Jake Faryniarz took the No. 6 match, which was a long, grueling competition 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 to put StMU on the board. 
 
The Vaqueros will head to Dallas this weekend to play two matches at SMU on Saturday, first against UT Tyler at 9 a.m. and then at 1 p.m. against (RV) SMU.
