WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team picked up two wins as action got underway at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional at Baylor on Thursday. 
 
Sophomore Yaiza Vazquez picked up her fourth consecutive victory of the fall season in the qualifying round of 64, defeating Sam Houston State's Roberta Sechi 6-4, 6-1 to open the day. She retired due to injury in her second-round match. 
 
Graduate student Isabelle Bahr dropped a tight three-set battle in her first match of the tournament to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Ana Veroux. Junior Kristal Dule was competitive in her first match but fell 6-4, 6-3 to Isid Hernandez from Incarnate Word. Dule was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Adeliya Mukhutdinova from Tarleton State in the consolation round of 32.
 
In doubles action, Bahr and junior Marjorie Souza picked up a solid 8-6 win over Paula Cerda/Roberta Sechi from Sam Houston State in the qualifying round of 64. Bahr/Souza will face Texas A&M's Lizanne Boyer/Gianna Pielet Friday at 4 p.m. in the round of 32. 
 
Souza will also begin her singles campaign Friday in the regional main draw. She'll battle Destinee Martins from TCU at 8 a.m. 
 
Dule and sophomore Valentina Urraco lost their round of 64 doubles match to Divna Ratkovic/Darya Schwartzman from Rice, 8-2. They'll play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Emma Aucagne/Naomi McKenzie Friday consolation draw.
