WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional on Friday at Baylor. 
 
Junior Marjorie Souza competed well in the Main Draw. She was defeated by TCU's Destinee Martins, 6-0, 6-4, in the Round of 64. Souza then lost in the consolation draw, 6-4, 6-3, to Stanislava Shulzhenko from North Texas. 
 
Souza and graduate student Isabelle Bahr advanced to the doubles qualifying round of 32 after a solid win Thursday. They played tough but fell 8-4 to Texas A&M's duo of Lizanne Boyer and Gianna Pielet. 
 
This was the final tournament of the fall season for the women's tennis team. They'll begin their spring dual match season in January. The Vaqueros will be hosting a pair of free youth tennis clinics in Brownsville on Oct. 21 and in Harlingen on Oct. 28.
