RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the California Baptist University (CBU) Lancers to close out their road trip on Sunday at CBU Soccer Stadium.
The Vaqueros (3-10-3, 1-6-1 WAC) came out and put the pressure early on the
the Lancers (9-1-6, 4-0-3 WAC) as they took five shots, two on goal, in the first 15 minutes.
The Lancers distributed the ball well early on, which started the scoring. In the 10
th minute, McKenna Ray found Sonja Lux in the box and then Lux found the back of the net for the first goal of the match.
Later in the 17
th minute, Morgan Witz connected with Kaylee Hauck as she floated one over the outstretched hand of UTRGV goalkeeper
Emilia Compian to make it 2-0. Witz got in on the scoring as she took the long pass from Hauck and got it past Compian for the 3-0 advantage and then Hauck scored one in the 30
th minute to close out the scoring in the half.
The Vaqueros didn't back down in the second half as they kept the Lancers off the board while finishing the night with 12 shots.
Compian finished the match with five saves while CBU goalkeeper Noa Schmacher finished with six saves.
The Vaqueros, who have been eliminated from contention for a spot in the WAC Tournament, will close out the season on Sunday, Oct. 22, when they host Stephen F. Austin at 12 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
