FORT WORTH – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis doubles team of senior Emilien Burnel and junior Sam Whitehead was dynamic Friday as action continued at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. 
 
Burnel and Whitehead started Day Two with a win over a Power Five duo in the doubles round of 64. They were locked in a clash with Texas Tech's Jonas Gundacker/Takeyasu Sekiguchi, exchanging blows to a 7-7 knot. In the tiebreaker, Burnel/Whitehead took control to win 7:4. 
 
Burnel and Whitehead had a quick turnaround for their round of 32 match against SMU's Callaway Clark and Liam Krall. The Vaqueros rode the momentum from their first match into the second and turned in a solid performance, defeating the SMU duo 8-4 to advance to the round of 16. Burnel/Whitehead will have a chance to reach the doubles quarterfinals round when they face TCU's Lui Maxted/Duncan Chan Saturday at 9 a.m. 
 
Sophomore McAllen Memorial alum Agustin Salazar and freshman Ivo Isqueiro started their doubles campaign in the round of 32 and fell 8-0 to Micah Braswell/Jonah Braswell from Texas. 
 
Burnel played his first singles match in the main draw round of 64 against a tough opponent in Baylor's Martin Breysach. Burnel took the first set, 6-4, but Breysach came back to take the next two and advance to the round of 32. Burnel will play Krall in the consolation bracket Saturday.
