Women's Golf Faces Off Against Corpus Christi in Match Play Event on Friday

MCALLEN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team is set to face the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a match play event on Friday at McAllen Country Club.

Tournament Format

Each team will play their top six players.
Each match will be spot vs. spot (#1 vs #1, #2 vs #2, etc.)
First group tees off at 2 p.m.
In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death playoff starting with the top group.
Winner will take home the South Texas Cup.

Golf Course Info

Boulder Creek Golf Club plays 5,951 yards.
The par for the course is 71.

Last Time Out

UTRGV finished in 18^th at The Clash at Boulder Creek with a three-round score of 897.
UTRGV posted rounds of 305, 293, and 299.
Natalia Rodriguez finished tied for 48^th with a three-round score of 221 after posting rounds of 76, 71 (-1), and 74. Rodriguez's 71 was her first collegiate round under par.
Preston Saiz also finished tied for 48^th with a three-round score of 221 with rounds of 76, 71 (-1), and 74 as she too recorded her first-career round under par.
Camilla Herrera finished tied for 82^nd with a three-round score of 228 after posting rounds of 76, 75, and 77.
Mercedes Vega finished tied for 82^nd with a three-round score of 228 after posting rounds of 77, 77, and 74.
Cristina Galban finished tied for 99^th with a three-round score of 238 with rounds of 80, 76, and 82.

Last Year's Match Play Event

UTRGV lost last year's match play event 2-5 to Corpus Christi.
Madi Ozuna finished her match all-square with Lucy Martinez giving UTRGV a half point.
Samantha Garza also got UTRGV a half point after finishing her match with Elsa Tornvall all-square.
Maria Jose Ramirez got UTRGV a full point by defeating Reagan Gray 3 & 2.
Corpus Christi go points at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, and No. 7 spots.
