RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team fell 4-2 to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a match play event on Friday at McAllen Country Club.
Junior
Madi Ozuna gave the Vaqueros the early lead as she defeated Reese Drezins 7 & 5 in the first match of the afternoon.
The Islanders got one back in the second match but freshman
Preston Saiz gave the Vaqueros the lead right back after defeating Samantha Gibbs 4 & 3 making it 2-1.
Corpus Christi then answered with wins at the No. 4 and 5 spots to take the 3-2 lead as it came down to the final pairing. Senior
Mercedes Vega and Lucie Charbonnier took it down to the last hole with a chance to tie the match but it was Charbonnier that clinched the win for the Islanders.
The Vaqueros' match play event with the Islanders closes out their fall season.
