RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that junior
Angelo Cabral, of the baseball team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cabral helped the Vaqueros sweep the doubleheader from the Central Michigan Chippewas on Friday as the Baseball team won 3-of-5 games last week.
Cabral, who was making just his fourth-career start, turned in a career performance as he pitched 6.1 innings allowing just two hits and no runs en route to striking out a career-high 15 batters.
The 15 strikeouts are the most strikeouts by a single player in the program since Dusten Knight struck out 14 on May 4, 2013 at North Dakota.
On the season, Cabaral is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA over 8.2 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts.
The Vaqueros will back in action on Friday when they kick off a three-game series with the University of Houston Cougars at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
