RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team bested the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Lumberjacks 4-3 Friday in a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
 
UTRGV (11-8, 6-2 WAC) swept the doubles session to take the 1-0 lead. Sophomore Daniela Rosenberger and senior Stefanie Wilske picked up a solid 6-2 win in the No. 3 flight, then the No. 2 duo of junior Isabelle Bahr and sophomore Marjorie Souza secured the point with a swift 6-1 win. Junior Lea Karren and sophomore Barbara Martinez completed the dominant performance from the Vaqueros with a 6-3 win on the first court. 
 
Souza rolled in her No. 2 match for a 6-3, 6-2 win, extending UTRGV's lead and improving her conference winning streak to seven matches. She is 7-1 in WAC singles. 
 
SFA got on the board with a win by Jemma Cave on the fourth court, but UTRGV quickly took the point back with a quick 6-3, 6-3 win by Bahr at No. 2. Bahr showcased her athleticism as she covered the court well and finished long rallies. 
 
The final three matches all went to three sets. SFA's Saga Koch trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a win on the sixth court. Then, Karren clinched the match victory at No. 1. She battled through two tough sets, winning the first 6-3 and dropping the second 2-6, then took control of the bout when her team needed her most to dominate the third 6-1. 
 
Wilske competed well on the fifth court, but Felicia Back held on to claim a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7:4) win. 
 
UTRGV will play its final regular season match Sunday at 9 a.m. against Sam Houston State at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
