UTRGV Athletics Announces Important Information for Friday Game Day

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – When the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team hosts Grand Canyon on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at UTRGV Baseball Stadium, there are a number of things fans need to know:
 
What's Going On?
Everything.
 
The festivities start at 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind right field where, in conjunction with G3 Scrap MetalL&F Distributors and 5x5 Brewing Co., UTRGV Athletics will be hosting a tailgate to officially launch Los Vaqueros, a blood orange kölsch style ale created by 5x5 Brewing Co. Fans can enjoy food, drinks and music during this celebration. Not only is G3 Scrap Metal bringing a DJ, but Payne Auto Group is sending Chris Marshall to perform. G3 Scrap Metal is providing the food. Drinks are courtesy of 5x5 Brewing Co.
 
Fans attending the tailgate will receive free Uber codes, courtesy of L&F Distributors.
 
Although this tailgate party officially starts at 4 p.m., fans can set up their own tailgates in the right field parking lot as early as 12:30 p.m.
 
Fans will be treated to a critical Western Athletic Conference baseball game between UTRGV and Grand Canyon. Additionally, the women's golf team's seniors will be honored during the game.
 
After the game, fans will be treated to fireworks, courtesy of G3 Scrap Metal.
 
Friday is also the Cane's Challenge, which rewards fans with a buy one, get one free coupon for a box combo at Raising Cane's if the Vaqueros win.
 
Can I Still Buy Tickets?
For the moment.
 
A limited number of tickets remain available at UTRGVTickets.com. UTRGV Athletics is anticipating what could be its largest crowd of the season.
 
Current UTRGV students can still gain access with their student ID.
 
What if My Tickets are at Will Call?
Fans picking up tickets at will call or from the pass list can pick up their tickets at the table near the center gate in front of the ballpark.
 
Where Do I Park?
Fans will be able to park anywhere on campus on game day.
 
V Club donors at the MVP Level or above, which are those that make annual donations of at least $2,500, receive priority parking and will be able to access reserved parking near the main entrance, directly across from the Coach Al & Joann Ogletree Plaza.
 
The remainder of the lot in front of the baseball stadium (E32), as well as the lot to the east across Elizabeth St. (E31), the ones behind right field (E33), and the lots across Schunior St. (E9 and E11) provide the most direct access to the stadium.
 
If I'm Doing My Own Tailgate, What do I Need to Know?
Please follow the policies below to ensure a safe and enjoyable tailgating experience:
  • One tailgate setup per parking space to include vehicle and canopies.
  • Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Tailgating should take place within 4 feet in front of or behind your vehicle.
  • Kegs, beer balls, and other common-source containers are prohibited on campus and in tailgating areas. This includes beer funnels.
  • Glass containers are prohibited.
  • Food and beverages shall be for personal consumption only. Sales are prohibited.
  • Amplified music must be confined to individual tailgate areas and speakers must be directed into the individual tailgate area.
  • Hooking into, connecting to, or similar use of university utilities and/or television or communication cable services is prohibited.
  • Saving parking spots is prohibited; to park together, guests must arrive together.
  • Individuals may not erect or move barricades, barrels, fencing, or any other traffic control devices.
  • All parking signs and instructions must be obeyed and strictly followed.
  • Individuals are responsible for properly securing overhead objects (flags, balloons, etc.).
  • It is the responsibility of each tailgate party to secure tailgating items prior to entering the stadium.
  • Use of ATVs, golf carts, gators, scooters, mopeds, and other motorized recreational vehicles are prohibited.
  • All trash from tailgates must be disposed of properly in designated containers.
  • Restroom access will be available in or near the parking lot.
 
Where Do I Enter the Stadium?
Most ticket holders can enter through the normal entrance through the main gates next to the Coach Al & Joann Ogletree Plaza on the southwest side of the stadium.
 
Corral ticket holders can enter through their regular entrance behind center field.
 
When Can I Enter the Stadium?
All fans can enter at 5:30 p.m.
 
What If I'm Early?
Fans are free to start lining up at the gates early or join the tailgate in the right field parking lot.
 
Clear Bag Policy
All fans are required to follow the clear bag policy:
 
Clear bags should be made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC and not exceed 12" x 6" x 12". Any plastic storage bags brought into the venue should be no larger than one gallon and must be both resealable and clear.
 
Exceptions
 
Small bags do not have to be clear but cannot exceed 4.5" x 6.5" and are subject to bag checks.
 
Diaper and medically necessary bags do not need to be clear or meet size restrictions, but they will be screened prior to entry.
 
Any adult bringing in a diaper bag must be accompanied by a child upon entry and the bag must contain childcare related items, such as diapers, wipes, changes of clothes, bottles for breast milk or formula, baby food, etc.
 
Bags deemed to be medically necessary must be specifically necessary/required for medical equipment and accommodations that cannot fit within the small bag or clear bag sizing, such as an insulated bag with ice pack to keep medication chilled, oxygen tank carrier/bag, large bag to carry a lactation pump, etc.
 
Medically related items that can safely be stored and transported in a small clear bag will not qualify for a larger medical bag exception and should be brought in a bag that meets the small bag or clear bag requirements. Examples of medical items that will not qualify for an exemption include, but are not limited to, medication that does not need to be refrigerated, pill bottles, epi-pens, inhalers, etc.
 
Prohibited Bags
 
Prohibited bags include purses, cases (i.e.: for cameras or binoculars), backpacks, fanny packs, printed pattern plastic bags, reusable grocery totes, tinted plastic bags, mesh or straw bags, duffle bags, and large totes.
 
Where Can I Get Food and Drinks?
There will be free food and drink at the tailgate from 4-to-6 p.m.
 
Once inside the stadium, all concession stands will be open as normal with increased staffing. 
 
Additionally, there will be hawkers walking around the stadium selling concessions to fans in their seats.
 
Where Can I Get UTRGV Gear?
The UTRGV bookstore will be stationed in the pavilion on the first base side.
 
How Do I Pay?
Although cash is accepted, credit cards are preferred at all locations to help keep the lines moving.
 
Where are the Restrooms Located?
Men's and women's restrooms are located on both sides of the stadium.
 
Additionally, there will be port-a-potties set up in the right field tailgate area.
 
Can I Exit and Return to the Stadium?
No. There will be no re-entry allowed for this game.
 
Where Do I Sit?
Most tickets are general admission, meaning fans can sit wherever they can find a seat. There are no reserved seats, meaning fans can claim seats on a first-come, first-serve basis.
 
Is There a Recycling Option?
Yes. Our game sponsor, G3 Scrap Metal, has added several recycling bins throughout the stadium to allow our fans to make sustainable choices.
 
Are There Any More Games?
Yes. UTRGV will host Grand Canyon Sunday at 12 p.m. as well.
 
It's superhero day. Fans dressed as their favorite superheroes or in their best comic book character attire will receive free general admission.
 
Sunday is also the home finale. The graduating senior class will be honored in a special pregame ceremony.
