Women's Soccer Sees Plenty of Positives in Exhibition Match against Houston

HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team saw plenty of positives in their first exhibition match of the season as they faced the University of Houston Cougars on Thursday at Carl Lewis International Complex.

The Vaqueros fell 4-0 to the Cougars but UTRGV Head Coach Mark Foster was encouraged by what he saw on Thursday.

"I am encouraged by what we saw out there today," Foster said. "There were a lot of positives that we took away from today that will benefit us throughout the season. I am encouraged by. the progress the team has made from the start of last week. I am really excited about this group. They hung in there against a power-five school that will contend."

The Vaqueros started seven freshmen against the Cougars and played tough as they trailed 1-0 at the half. UTRGV is working on a different system from a season ago and learned plenty in the second half.

The Vaqueros are excited for their next exhibition match on Saturday at Texas Southern at 11 a.m.
