Women's Soccer Wraps Up Exhibitions With 2-2 Draw at Texas Southern

HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team wrapped up their preseason exhibitions with a 2-2 draw with the Texas Southern University Tigers on Saturday.

The Vaqueros jumped out to a 2-0 lead after getting goals from freshman Kaiya Rainwater and senior Ana Recarte-Pacheco

The Tigers got a couple of late goals to see the match end in a draw.

"We started off sluggish but played really good in the middle," UTRGV Head Coach Mark Foster said. "I am really excited about the chances we created. We had opportunities but couldn't put them away. We had a bunch of opportunities and I liked that we put ourselves in good spots. Now we just need to be more clinical to put them away."

The Vaqueros were able to see 20 members of the roster see action on Saturday with plenty of minutes to show. The Vaqueros are starting to get their legs under them as the season approaches next week against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.

"It was a good day." Foster said. "We got the girls a lot of minutes. It's good to get games in to get ready for the season opener. We learned a lot over these two exhibition matches and now we turn our attention to next week's season opener."
