RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opener 1-0 over the Abilene Christian University Wildcats on Thursday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
Freshman
Linnea Eld scored her second goal of the season on a free kick from the top of the box, just to the right of center, in the 52
nd minute. It was her first-career game-winning goal.
Eld finished with two shots. Junior
Molly Reynosa also attempted two shots.
Freshman
Anais van Doesburg (2-1-1) made three saves for her first clean sheet.
The Wildcats (5-4-1, 0-1-0) outshot the Vaqueros (3-4-2, 1-0-0) 10-6, including 3-1 on goal.
The Vaqueros host Tarleton State on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Admission is complimentary. Fans can watch domestically on
