RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team earned their first Southland Conference win in a 1-0 victory over the Houston Christian (HCU) Huskies on Thursday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
UTRGV (5-3-4, 1-0-3) took the lead in the 50

Savannah Frisby. On the Vaqueros sixth corner kick, sophomore
Rosie Train delivered a perfect ball into the box as Frisby rose up and headed in the game winner.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kamila Aguilar picked up one save on five shots faced to keep the Huskies (3-7-3, 1-2-1) off the board.
The Vaqueros remain unbeaten in Southland Conference play and recorded their seventh shutout of the season, which is tied for the fourth most in a single season in program history.
In the first half, the Vaqueros and Huskies played sound defense both teams combined for four shots with only one on goal.
UTRGV came out aggressive to begin the second half as Train nearly scored on a free kick before the ball was knocked over the goal post by HCU keeper
Emmy McKeon. After that free kick, Train and Frisby connected for the game winner.
The Vaqueros did not take let their foot off the pedal as they continued to put the pressure on the Huskies defense. Defensively, the Vaqueros remained strong as they only allowed two shots with none on goal for the Huskies in the final 40 minutes of play.
McKeon had two saves for the Huskies.
UTRGV outshot HCU 8 to 6 and 3 to 1 on goal. UTRGV earned 12 corners to the Huskies zero.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Oct. 6 when they host Stephen F. Austin at 11 a.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Attendance is free but fans will need a digital pass to gain entrance. Fans can sign up for the UTRGV Soccer Pass at
