RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that senior Hasan Abdul-Hakim, of the men's basketball team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Abdul Hakim was named the Greenbriar Tip-Off River Division MVP Friday after averaging 19.5 points and shooting 63% from the field to help the Vaqueros win the Greenbriar Tip-Off River Division, their first tournament win since 2016-17.
 
On Friday, Abdul Hakim led the Vaqueros with a game-high 24 points and four steals in UTRGV's 86-76 win over Charleston Southern in the first round of the tournament.
 
In the championship game on Saturday, Abdul Hakim scored a team-high 15 points while adding five rebounds and two assists in UTRGV's 83-58 victory over Tennessee Tech.
 
On the season, Abdul Hakim leads the Vaqueros in scoring (14.5 points per game) and steals (12).
 
Tonight, The Vaqueros will take on the Wisconsin Badgers, who is receiving votes in national polls and is coming off a 15-point upset over No. 9 Arizona. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be shown on the Big Ten Network.
