RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros head men's basketball coach
Kahil Fennell announced on Tuesday the additions of guards
K.T. Raimey and
Cliff Davis for the 2024-25 academic year.
Raimey spent the last two seasons at DePaul University where he played in 48 games while averaging 5.3 points,1.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. Raimey shot 36% from the floor and 35% from three-point range throughout both seasons.
Last season, Raimey played in 29 games and averaged 18.4 minutes per game while averaging 6.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Raimey scored in double-figures nine times, including a season-high 15 points against Chicago State.
Prior to his time at DePaul, Raimey played two seasons at the College of Southern Idaho, where he helped his team to the NJCAA National Tournament and finish the season with a 21-4 record. He averaged 11.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game and shot 47.9% from the floor and 35.3% from three-point range as a freshman while he averaged 11.8 points per game in a shortened season as a sophomore.
"K.T. brings experience," Fennell said. "He has competed at a high level back to his MoKan days competing for Peach Jam and obviously playing at the highest junior college level with Southern Idaho, and then going to play in the Big East. He has seen what good looks like and knows what it takes to be successful. He can really shoot the basketball. He's 6-3 and is every bit of it. He's got long arms and a good mover. He can really shoot it in a standstill spot up situation or on the move as well. He is someone that we are going to put all over the floor in different kinds of positions and help him be successful there."
Davis spent last season at Northwestern State, where he played in 31 games, while making 24 starts. Davis averaged 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Davis 39.9% from the floor and 39.2% from three-point range.
Davis recorded 22 games of double-figure scoring, including seven games of 20 or more. Davis scored a season-high 30 against Southern-New Orleans, while setting a single-game program record with 10 three-pointers.
Prior to joining Northwestern State, Davis spent two seasons at Chipola College where he was named First Team All-Conference and All-State as a sophomore after averaging 10.9 points per game.
"Cliff is a strong physical driver, but he can really shoot the basketball," Fennell said. "He shot over 220 three-point attempts at Northwestern State this year. He has seen the conference and knows what it takes to win there. He knows what it takes to be successful in the Southland. We really hope, I believe, he is wired the right way to finish his career on a winning note. Cliff can really shoot the basketball. He's tough and physical and I think he is ready to hit the ground running when he gets here."
Raimey and Davis are the first two signees under Coach Fennell and will join
J.J. Howard,
Howie Fleming Jr.,
Fadi Mougharbel,
Hasan Abdul-Hakim, and
Isaiah Barganier as part of next season's roster.
