RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros head volleyball coach Todd Lowery announced on Wednesday the addition of 5-11 setter Alessia Couchond for the 2024 season. 
 
Couchond comes to UTRGV from Carate Brianza, Italy where she played with SSD Pallavolo Concorezzo in one of the top levels of women's Italian volleyball. She helped the club win the Serie B1 championship in 2024, earning them a move up to the Serie A2 level. Couchond spent the last five seasons competing in B1 and B2 and gaining valuable experience she'll bring to the Vaqueros. 
 
Couchond joins signees Isabella Costantini and Celianiz Cabranes to complete the 2024 roster. 
 
"Alessia brings some great experience. She set for a team in Italy that won the B1 championship, which is a very competitive level. It's a similar level where Nadine Zech and Margherita Giani came from, and those are players we know have been successful in our program," Lowery said. "The nice thing about having true freshmen come in that are pretty close to being ready to play right away is we get to see them grow up and transform and have an impact right away. That's what we're looking for out of Alessia and we're excited to get her here."
