RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Texas Southern University Tigers in their season opener on Thursday at UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
After a scoreless first half, The Tigers (1-0-0) got the scoring started in the 52
nd minute. As the Vaqueros (0-1-0) were in the box, the Tigers countered and connected on a long pass to Victoria Pucci who then connected with Dejah Marsh who then found the back of the net.
The Vaqueros controlled the ball most of the match as they led in shots 9 to 2 and 4 to 1 on goal. UTRGV really put the pressure on in the second half having several good looks in front of the net but the Tigers goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas made four saves to keep the clean sheet.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 20, when they visit Tarleton State at 7 p.m.
