RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore Kailey Salazar, of the women's cross country team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Salazar helped lead the women's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the UIW Invitational last week. 
 
Salazar finished in eighth place in the 5K race with a time of 18:36 .The eighth place finish is a career-best for Salazar as she led the charge for the Vaqueros who had three other top-15 finishes. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Oct. 12 at the West Side Classic, hosted by Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio.
