KINGSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team picked up six wins and played well in doubles Saturday to close their first fall tournament at the Javelina Jam. 
 
The doubles team of junior Valentina Urraco and freshman Mariia Bakhtina rolled through the Apple Draw. They got the day started with a solid 8-5 win over Ella Hester/Kaitlin Blount from Texas A&M-Kingsville, then dominated their match against Angelo State's Elise Gillis/Benedetta Raggiotti for an 8-0 win. 
 
Sophomore McAllen High alum Giuliana Castelain also played in the Apple Draw with Precious Ugochukwu from Prairie View A&M. The mix-matched duo dropped their first contest but responded well to pick up an 8-5 win over Cierra Garcia/Chyna Welborn from PVAMU. 
 
Junior Yaiza Vazquez and sophomore Hitakamya Narwal added to UTRGV's doubles success with an 8-3 win over TAMUK's Luna Jokanovic/Guadalupe Tocci in the Marmalade Draw. 
 
In singles action, Vazquez and sophomore Madeleine Joffe earned wins in side matches. Both were scheduled to play against UTRGV teammates and instead picked up matches against two players from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Vazquez defeated Juliette Jalai 6-1, 6-3 and Joffe defeated Jimenez Casado 7-5, 6-2. 
 
Joffe finished the weekend going 3-0 in singles. UTRGV collected 13 wins across two days of competition. 
 
The next tournament for the Vaqueros will be the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional in Fort Worth from Oct. 10-14.
