Tennis Teams to Host Pro-Am Fundraiser on Nov. 15

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's and women's tennis teams announced Tuesday that they will be hosting the UTRGV Tennis Pro-Am Fundraiser on Nov. 15 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

The event will give amateur players of all ages and experience levels a chance to team up with a current member of the UTRGV men's or women's tennis teams and play doubles against another Vaquero-amateur duo. Doubles will be played from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and matches will be timed to allow all attendees a chance to take the court.

Alongside our doubles courts, UTRGV will also have a "drills court" running for anyone looking to run through some of the drills the Vaqueros do at practice.

The registration fee for the fundraiser is $100 per person. The money raised through this fundraiser will help fund direct costs which include, food and nutrition, travel and transportation, gear, equipment, and many other vital resources while these programs purse their ultimate goal of winning the Southland Conference. Participants can register online at GoUTRGV.com/ProAm.

"West and I are extremely excited to host the Vaquero Pro-Am," men's head tennis coach Nathan Robinson said. "It is a great event that allows UTRGV students, alumni, faculty, staff, or anyone from the community to spend time with our wonderful student athletes. We have a great group that love to interact with and get to know the people who support them."

"We are looking forward to connecting with alumni and the local tennis community for our doubles pro-am," women's head tennis coach West Nott said. "We will be pairing each participant with one of our players in a fun doubles format where we will share laughs and compete against each other. We invite all ages and skill levels to attend, and we will go out of our way to make it a memorable experience."

Alumni and amateurs alike are welcome to come prepared to play as a team and take on a Vaqueros doubles team. UTRGV hopes to have fun competitions going on all six courts. Pairs will be assigned in a semi-random way with Robinson and Nott aiming to match experience levels on all courts.

Robinson believes this event will help our student-athletes become more comfortable in their home away from home as they get better acquainted with the people of the Valley. Nott is hoping to share the passion for not only UTRGV tennis, but tennis as a whole.

"By being a part of this Pro-Am, you are also helping support our Tennis Programs, as the fee goes directly into our fund to help us better support our athletes as we focus on taking the next step and winning the Southland Conference," Robinson added. "We hope to see a ton of you guys out there in November."

"Some of my best memories over the years in college coaching has been hosting fundraisers where it allows us to showcase our people and share our passion for UTRGV tennis," Nott said. "I can't wait to see you out there, feel free to reach out if you have any questions."
