SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team kicks off a four-match road trip Tuesday in San Antonio.
The Vaqueros (5-5, 2-2 Southland Conference) will play at UTSA (15-2, 2-2 American Athletic Conference) at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the UTSA Tennis Center. UTRGV is 4-26 all-time against the Roadrunners. This will be the first match between the programs since 2020, when UTSA picked up a 7-0 home win over the Vaqueros. UTRGV's last win over UTSA was in 2018.
UTRGV faces Tyler Junior College (3-5) at 10 a.m. Wednesday in an exhibition match. The neutral site contest at the UTSA Tennis Center will mark the first time the programs face off.
These midweek matches will be UTRGV's final non-conference contests of the season. The Vaqueros have shined on their home courts, holding a 5-1 record, but are still looking for the first road win of the season.
UTRGV does head into these bouts with some momentum after capturing a home victory over UT Permian Basin. Senior
Kristal Dule is leading the Vaqueros on the courts with a 7-2 record this season. Dule is on a five-match winning streak in singles, picking up four consecutive wins at No. 3 before moving up to No. 2 for the UTPB match and continuing her run. The Vaqueros have been solid in the middle of the lineup with sophomores
Rhea Makesar and
Madeleine Joffe playing consistent tennis on either side of Dule, holding down the second and fourth flights, respectively.
