Women’s Tennis Gets Back Into Conference Action in Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS – After a pair of non-conference matches, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team is ready to get back into Southland Conference (SLC) play this weekend in Louisiana.

The Vaqueros (5-6, 2-2 SLC) will play at New Orleans (4-6, 0-2 SLC) at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center. UTRGV is 5-8 all-time against UNO and will look to snap an eight-match losing streak to the Privateers. These teams haven't played since 2010, a match won by the Privateers, 4-0, in New Orleans. UTRGV's last win in the head-to-head series came in 1994.

UTRGV travels to Thibodaux, Louisiana to face the Nicholls Colonels (2-7, 0-2 SLC) on Monday at 1 p.m. The Vaqueros are 3-8 all-time against Nicholls and are chasing the program's first win over the Colonels since 2007. These teams last met in 2015 in a neutral site match. UTRGV's last trip to Thibodaux resulted in a 4-1 loss in 2014.

The Vaqueros are looking to get back in the win column after dropping a pair of matches in San Antonio earlier this week. UTRGV got off to a hot start in SLC play, winning its first two matches at home, but dropped a pair of road conference contests two weeks ago. UTRGV is chasing its first road win of the season as it gets back into the conference swing.

UTRGV is tied for fourth with Southeastern in the SLC standings heading into the weekend. New Orleans and Nicholls sit at the bottom of the standings and have yet to capture a conference win in 2025.
