Women's Basketball Places Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team learned on Tuesday that junior Charlotte O'Keefegraduate students Kade Hackerott and Chynell Mitchelland sophomore Madison Huhn have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.  
 
Academic All-District selections are part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across many levels of college sports. To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically with a 3.50 cumulative GPA or better. Requirements to earn Academic All-District for women's basketball also include competing in 90% of the team's games or starting in at least 66% of contests. Select student-athletes who earn Academic All-District will advance to the national ballot for consideration to the Academic All-America teams, selected by CSC. 
 
O'Keefe, a finance major from Overland Park, Kansas, earned Southland All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team honors after the 2024-25 season. She was the only SLC women's basketball player to average a double-double this season, contributing 12.5 rebounds per game (RPG) and 10.7 points per game. She led the conference in all rebounding categories and was nationally ranked in the top 10 in all four – ranking second in total rebounds (400), third in RPG (12.5), sixth in offensive RPG (4.5) and eighth in defensive RPG (8.0). 
 
O'Keefe is one of just two Div. I players to achieve three significant achievements – reaching 400 rebounds in the season, recording two 20/20 games, and recording three or more games of 20+ rebounds. She became just the ninth player in SLC history to reach 400 rebounds in a season. O'Keefe became the UTRGV program record holder for single-season rebounds and career rebounds as she currently has 808 total rebounds through three seasons. She led the team with 44 blocks and by shooting 40% from the field. 
 
Hackerott made the Southland All-Conference Second Team after leading the Vaqueros in scoring with 13.1 points per game. She was second in the conference in free throw makes (119) and attempts (161), ranking 73rd and 64th in the nation, respectively. She led the team averaging 32.7 minutes per game and hauled in 6.5 RPG while recording a team-best 35 steals and dishing out 89 assists. Hackerott, a guard/forward from Wichita, Kansas, is pursuing a Master of Business Administration. 
 
Mitchell is a graduate transfer from Austin pursuing a Master of Higher Education Administration. She made 18 starts this season and averaged 5.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. 
 
Huhn is a marketing major from San Diego who transferred to UTRGV from Miami (OH). She appeared in 31 games and scored 3.3 points per game while making 24 three-pointers.
