NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team is heading to Louisiana for its first Southland Conference (SLC) road match Friday at Northwestern State. 
 
The Vaqueros (4-3, 2-0 SLC) and Lady Demons (2-5, 2-0 SLC) are two of four teams tied atop the conference standings after the opening weekend with undefeated records. They'll battle at 1 p.m. to see which team becomes the first in SLC to improve to 3-0. 
 
UTRGV is 0-8 all-time against Northwestern State in a series dating back to 1990, but the teams haven't played each other since 2012. That match was UTRGV's last trip to Natchitoches and resulted in a 7-0 loss. 
 
The Vaqueros have momentum heading into the match after defeating the 2024 conference runner-up, McNeese, in a gritty 4-3 contest the last time out. Senior Kristal Dule has been dynamic in conference play and the Vaqueros have picked up back-to-back doubles points to set the tone. They'll look to do the same Friday to get in the driver's seat.
