NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis teams continues its first Southland Conference (SLC) road trip Monday with a 10 a.m. match against the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Ladyjacks.
The Vaqueros (4-4, 2-1 SLC) are 4-15 all-time against the Ladyjacks (7-4, 2-0 SLC), but won the last two meetings between these squads when they were Western Athletic Conference (WAC) foes. Last season, UTRGV earned a 5-2 win over SFA at the Schlief Tennis Complex behind the doubles point and wins by returners
Kristal Dule and
Yaiza Vazquez.
UTRGV got off to a strong start in its first SLC season, defending home court to start 2-0. The Vaqueros dropped a tough match at Northwestern State on Friday and are eager to get back on the court and back in the win column.
SFA has won three in a row, including picking up conference wins at Nicholls and New Orleans. This will be the conference home opener for the Ladyjacks and weather could be a factor. The Vaqueros are preparing to play in cooler weather but have had a few days of good practice and are ready for the next challenge.
