SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf improved by 10 strokes in the second round of the Southland Conference (SLC) Championship on Tuesday at Kissing Tree Golf Course.
A day after posting a first round 309, the Vaqueros turned in a second round 299 and sits in seventh place with a two-round total of 608.
The Vaqueros were led by sophomore
Preston Saiz and senior
Cristina Galban who each posted second rounds of even par 72. Saiz and Galban are tied for 14
th with a two-round total of 150.
Sophomore
Natalia Rodriguez is tied for ninth place with a two-round total of 148 after posting a second round 76. Rodriguez is six shots off the lead held by Augusta's Zoe Pinillos who is two-under through two rounds.
Junior
Jackie Howard Gonzalez is tied for 33
rd with a two-round total of 160 after turning in a second round 79. Freshman
Kieli Saenz is in 38
th with a two-round total of 165 after a second round 83.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi holds the lead after the second round after posting a 283 and holds a 10-shot lead with a two-round total of 586.
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Wednesday with the first group teeing off at 7:40 a.m.
