RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that redshirt sophomore
Armani Raygoza, of the baseball team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Raygoza was a force at the plate, helping the Vaqueros go 5-0 this week with a midweek sweep over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and a sweep of Southland Conference foe Incarnate Word to clinch a top two seed and home field advantage in Southland Conference Tournament Bracket Play.
Raygoza went 11-for-23 at the plate with two home runs, nine RBI, four doubles, eight runs scored, and four walks last week.
Against Texas Tech on Tuesday, Raygoza went a career-high tying 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. His career day included a two-run shot in the fifth inning, good for his third home run in as many games.
Raygoza helped complete the two-game sweep of Texas Tech after going 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a walk on Wednesday. UTRGV outscored Texas Tech 20-8 over those two games.
On Sunday, UTRGV finished their sweep of Incarnate Word with a 16-5 eight-inning victory. Raygoza once again had a career-high four hits with a home run, a double, a walk, a career-high six RBI, and two runs scored.
