RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Monday the 2024-25 ITA All-Academic Awards. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic Team and seven members earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
To be named an All-Academic Team, the team must have a 3.2 GPA or better for the 2024-25 academic year. Student-athletes are named Scholar-Athletes if they have a GPA of 3.50 or better for the current academic year. The ITA recognized 222 women's programs and 1,462 Div. I women's tennis student-athletes with All-Academic distinctions in 2025.
The Vaqueros women's tennis team posted an impressive 3.67 GPA during the academic and athletic year.
Mariia Bakhtina, Kristal Dule, Madeleine Joffe, Rhea Makesar, Hitakamya Narwal, Valentina Urraco and
Yaiza Vazquez were all honored as Scholar-Athletes.
Dule, Joffe, Makesar and Narwal also made the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Dule, who graduated this spring with a bachelor's in economics, was named the UTRGV Anheuser Busch/Ann LaMantia Award winner at the 2025 V Awards, which goes to the female senior student-athlete with the highest GPA. She was voted to the Southland Conference (SLC) All-Academic Second Team.
