HOUSTON & KINGSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team continued their first weekend of fall tennis Saturday at the Rice Invitational and Javelina Jam, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
Sophomore Mariia Bakhtina and junior Rhea Makesar earned the Vaqueros lone win in doubles at the Rice Invitational with a dominant 6-1 victory over Sam Houston's Aaliyah Hohmann and Nayuma Subba.
 
At the Javelina Jam, junior Hitakamya Narwal pulled out a tough, back-and-forth 6-7 (7-2), 6-3, 1-0 (11-9) victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville's Guadalupe Tocci. In Flight B, sophomore Luna Buijtenhuijs dispatched Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Adriana Jimenez Casado, winning 6-4, 6-3.

The Vaqueros finished their run at the Javelina Jam but will continue the Rice Invitational Sunday with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
