LAREDO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team defeated the Texas A&M International Dustdevils 6-1 for their first win of the season on Thursday at Dustdevil Soccer Field.
The Vaqueros (1-5-1) didn't waste time to get on the scoreboard as redshirt sophomore
Malang Mandiang scored his first goal of the season for the 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
Less than a minute later, freshman
Michael Chaves connected with junior
Eduardo de Oliveira, who scored his second goal of the season making it 2-0 UTRGV.
In the 16
th minute, the Dustdevils (2-1-4) committed a penalty in the box giving UTRGV a penalty kick where junior
Mouhamed Pouye converted to make it 3-0 Vaqueros.
The Dustdevils got on the board late in the first half when Kai Louviere put one in the back of the net in the 37
th minute.
The Vaqueros outshot the Dustdevils 6 to 3 in the first half while outshooting 3 to 1 on goal.
The Vaqueros carried over their offensive pressure into the second half. In the 64

Sota Matsuo connected with De Oliveira, who scored his second goal of the match to extend UTRGV's lead to 4-1.
In the 74
th minute, junior
Emiliano Abboud got in on the scoring as he scored his first goal of the season to make it 5-1.
The Vaqueros put the final touches on the scoring as senior
Diogo Mendonca Bastos sent his pass to Mandiang, who put it in the back of the net in the 87
th minute.
UTRGV was efficient with their shots as they scored six times on 11 shots while allowing eight shots to Texas A&M International.

Alexis Gonzalez made two saves in the match.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on September 30 when they visit Grand Canyon University at 9 p.m. at GCU Stadium.
