RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's swimming and diving team opened their season with an impressive performance in the pentathlon, highlighted by multiple event wins and a balanced team effort across every stroke.

Freshman Sarah Bull set the tone for the Vaqueros, winning the 100 butterfly and 100 individual Medley, while also finishing runner-up in the 100 backstroke and third in the 100 freestyle. Her consistency across all five events helped her secure first place overall.

Right behind her, freshman Jaydy Jay claimed victory in the 100 breaststroke and added a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 individual medley, and placed second overall. Junior Olivia Votava proved to be a steady contributor, taking second in the 100 freestyle and scoring multiple top five finishes to land third overall.

Freshman Dia Henderson picked up a big win in the 100 freestyle, showing off her speed while also scoring in the breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke to finish fourth overall. Sophomore Madiana Lofgren rounded out the top five overall standings with her strong performance in the butterfly and individual medley.

Sophomore Annaleagh Stahl grabbed her lone event win in the 100 backstroke, while freshman Ava Light impressed with a second-place finish in the breaststroke.

"I got to see some good things," head swimming & diving coach Betsy Graham said. "I felt we had holes, but we plugged them by bringing in new people. I think we're going to be more competitive this year, we have room to grow, but I'm really satisfied with our second pentathlon."

The Orange & Gray Intrasquad Meet will continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. as the team will split into two squads, Orange and Gray, and compete in a dual meet style event.
