RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Monday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball junior guard Jalayah Ingram has been named the SLC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.  
 
Ingram scored the eighth-most points of any Div. I women's basketball player last week, totaling 52 points for an average of 26 points per game to lead the Vaqueros (8-8, 5-2 SLC) to victories at Northwestern State and at East Texas A&M. 
 
She was tied for the most free throws made between Jan. 5 and Jan. 11, going 22-for-24 at the line. Ingram went 11-for-12 at the charity stripe in both games, shooting 91.6% on the week to bring her season mark up to 83.8%, which is second in the conference and 75^th in the nation. Ingram leads the SLC in free throws made (98) and attempted (117) this season, ranking fourth and sixth in the nation, respectively. 
 
With her big scoring week, Ingram moved to second in the Southland in points (247) and points per game (17.6). She ranks 59^th in the nation in average scoring, leading the Vaqueros. 
 
Ingram was extremely clutch in the second half of both games to lift UTRGV to a pair of key comeback wins on the road. She scored 23 points at Northwestern State with 20 of those points coming in the second half, helping the Vaqueros erase a nine-point deficit. At East Texas A&M, she scored a career-high 29 points and produced 16 points – including 14 in a row for her squad – to flip the tight game in UTRGV's favor. Ingram also had 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals while only committing four turnovers on the week. 
 
The Vaqueros are back at the UTRGV Fieldhouse for a pair of SLC games this week, starting with a 6:30 p.m. contest against Southeastern on Thursday.
