WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team sits inside the top 10 after day one of the PD Intercollegiate, hosted by Oklahoma, on Monday at Wichita Country Club.
Led by freshmen
Avery Glanzer (70) and
Kanyanat Kamphoo (71), the Vaqueros opened the tournament with a 291 in the first round. Junior
Miriam Barcalova (69) led the way in the second round as UTRGV posted a team score of 292. The first and second round scores rank eighth and tied for ninth, respectively, for the lowest team single-round scores in program history.
UTRGV also had three individual rounds enter the program record book, highlighted by Barcalova's three-under 69 in the second round.
The Vaqueros finished the day in ninth place after posting a two-round score of 583. The Vaqueros sit ahead Oral Roberts (585) and Toledo (587). Meanwhile, Oklahoma (561), Eastern Michigan (565), Missouri (566), Santa Clara (568), and BYU (573) make up the top five of the tournament.
Leading the way for the Vaqueros was Glanzer who carded a one-under 70 in the first round of the tournament. Glanzer's first-round performance put her in a tie for fifth after the opening 18 holes and entered the record books in a tie for 11
th for lowest individual round in program history. Glanzer finished the day in a tie for 20
th with a two-round score of 144.
Finishing not far behind was Kamphoo who posted an opening round 71 and entered the record books in a tie for 26
th for lowest individual round in program history. Kamphoo's two-round score of 146 puts her in a tie for 35
th.
UTRGV's best round of the day belonged to Barcalova who bounced back from an opening round score of 79 with a three-under 69 in the second round. Barcalova's second round entered the record books in a tie for fourth for lowest individual round in program history. Barcalova jumped 17 spots after the second round and into a tie for 47
th.
Senior
Natalia Rodriguez joined Barcalova as the lone Vaqueros to improve their score in the second round. On the first 18, Rodriguez carded a 75 and improved by one-stroke to a 74 in the second round to finish in a tie for 51
st. Junior
Zoe Hobbs finished the day with a two-round score of 153 which puts her in a tie for 63
rd.
