Nayla Harris has been named the SLC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this indoor season.
Harris wrapped up an undefeated regular season in the women's 60-meter dash Friday at Texas Tech's Jarvis Scott Invite. She won the race in 7.17 after running a blazing, pre-altitude adjusted time of 7.16 in the semifinal round. She is tied for sixth in the nation in the 60 dash and is the fastest woman in the South Central Region as well as in SLC history and UTRGV program history with her time of 7.18, recorded on Jan. 10.
Harris defeated runners from Power 4 schools including Texas Tech, Baylor and Wisconsin last week in Lubbock, adding to the list of major opponents she has taken down this year. She also ran a personal best time of 24.07 in the 200-meter dash to earn a top 20 finish in a field of 127 runners at the Jarvis Scott Invite.
The speedy senior went 4-for-4 with first-place finishes in the 60 this indoor season, winning at Houston, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. She is in contention to reach the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships as a top 16 student-athlete in the 60-meter dash. th in the 200 heading to the SLC Indoor Championships set for Feb. 25-26 in Birmingham, Alabama.
This is the fifth SLC Track Athlete of the Week award for Harris overall.
