Indoor Track & Field Sets Four Program Records Day 2 of Charlie Thomas Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) indoor track & field teams set four program records on Day 2 of the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Texas A&M's Fasken Indoor Track & Field facility to wrap up the meet Saturday, led by two from junior N Vanee Anchike

Anchike set program records in the women's 800-meter and mile runs, running a personal best 2:08.74 to take fifth in the 800 and a personal best 4:47.06 to finish seventh in the mile. Redshirt junior Aaron Cooper broke his own program record in the men's triple jump with a personal best mark of 15.18 meters to take seventh. The men's 4x400-meter relay comprised of Alejandro Arellano, Joshua Mascall, Daniel Siaffa and Derrius Henry ran 3:10.36 to finish fourth and set a program record.

Senior Nayla Harris picked up her third consecutive victory in the women's 60-meter dash. She was the top qualifier out of prelims with a time of 7.22 and went on to handily win the event in 7.23, running the second and third best times in program history. Junior Aniya Heckstall also reached the 60 finals and took fourth in a personal best time of 7.48.

Anchike's two records were part of a big weekend for UTRGV's (mid) distance crew. Senior Lilliana Guerrero joined Anchike in the record books, running 2:12.82 for the No. 7 spot in the record books in the 800 and clocking a personal best 4:52.88 in the mile for the second-best time in program history. Additionally, junior Kailey Salazar ran 2:13.13 in the 800, good for the eighth-best race in program history.

Senior Abraham Morales had a solid day to lead the men's long runners. He made two indoor record book entries, running personal bests of 4:11.02 in the mile and 1:53.34 in the 800-meter run. He tabbed the fourth- and fifth-best performances in UTRGV history in the events. Freshman Adrianno Gonzalez also tabbed a personal best in the men's mile. Senior PSJA High alum Faith Cruz continued her good weekend by taking sixth in the women's 3,000-meter run with a personal best time of 9:55.67, the No. 3 race in program history.

Senior Efe Latham shined in women's shot put, launching a lifetime best of 15.45 meters to take sixth. Her mark is No. 6 in program history and the first entry into the indoor women's shot put top 10 in six years.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Aliyah Castillo, Talyna Ligier, Madisyn Jackson and Treasure Vallerie ran 3:45.13, which is No. 3 in program history. In the 60-meter hurdles, redshirt junior Ashley Lingueno and Siaffa ran personal bests in the women's and men's races, respectively. Lingueno's time of 8.56 resulted in a 10th-place finish. Siaffa entered the UTRGV history books at No. 9 with a time of 8.16.
