RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that senior
Nayla Harris, of the track & field team, is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Harris accompanied 15 of the fastest sprinters in the country to compete in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.
Harris clocked in at 7.16 during the qualifying round Friday to secure an automatic bid into the final of the women's 60-meter dash. Harris took second in her heat and fourth overall.
In the finals, Harris earned First Team All-America honors as she finished fifth with a time of 7.18 to complete her incredible indoor season. She is the first-ever women's 60-meter dash First Team All-American in Southland Conference (SLC) history.
Harris owns the top 10 times in the women's 60-meter dash in program history and the five fastest times in SLC history.
