Men’s Soccer’s Bryheem Hancock Inducted into Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics learned on Thursday that head men's soccer coach Bryheem Hancock was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2026.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame," Hancock said. "This induction recognizes the dedication, support, and mentorship that my mother and brother poured into me my entire life. Everything I've achieved has been a family sacrifice to allow me to focus on my career, and I am glad I held up my part of this accomplishment."

Hancock, a native of Middletown, Delaware, concluded his sixth season with the Vaqueros and will spearhead the program's transition into the Ohio Valley Conference, starting with the 2026 season. Prior to the 2025 season, Hancock guided UTRGV to three-straight winning seasons at home. During his tenure at UTRGV, Hancock has seen two Vaqueros get selected in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft and 11 Vaqueros earn All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honors during his five seasons in the WAC.

In 2023, Bryant Farkarlun was selected by Austin FC in the second round (31st overall) of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. Meanwhile, Reshaun Walkes was selected by Toronto FC in the third round (59th overall) of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

Hancock led William Akio, Bryant Farkarlun, and Elyad Shojaei to All-WAC First Team honors. Meanwhile, Moiad Ankir, Yusuf Cueceoglu, Trevor Schneider, and Reshaun Wilkes were named to the All-WAC Second Team and Javier Chavas and Keaviano Francis were awarded All-WAC Freshman Team honors. In addition, Akio also earned WAC Offensive Player of the Year during his time at UTRGV.

Prior to his time at UTRGV, Hancock led Radford to their 25th consecutive Big South Tournament in 2019. In 2018, he led Radford to a second-place finish in the Big South and helped the program reach the semifinals in the conference tournament. In his first season, Hancock led Radford to a 10-2 season and another semifinal appearance.

Prior to his time at Radford, Hancock spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida (USF) where he helped the team finish with double-digit wins in five seasons while advancing to the NCAA Tournament seven times.

Under Hancock's guidance, USF's Jeff Attinella was named the Big East Goalkeeper of the Year and was also named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of American All-American First Team.

Hancock played collegiately at the University of Connecticut, where he guided the Huskies to four NCAA Tournament appearances, two Final Four appearances, and the 2000 NCAA National Championship. As a senior, Hancock was named Big East Goalkeeper of the Year and an NSCAA All-American.

Hancock graduated from UConn in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications.

Hancock was the first goalkeeper selected in the 2001 Major League Soccer Draft, getting picked by the L.A. Galaxy before playing with the Atlanta Silverbacks and Toronto Lynx.

Hancock is one of four active UTRGV coaches to be inducted into a Hall of Fame alongside head track & field/cross country coach Shareese Hicks who was inducted into the Charlotte Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020, diving coach Jennifer Mangum who has been inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2014, and head volleyball coach Todd Lowery who was inducted into the Red River Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in 2025.
