WACO, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis program is set to visit the No. 11 Baylor (BU) Bears for their regular season finale Sunday.
Last Time Out
UTRGV dominated its last two matches of Southland Conference (SLC) play, defeating New Orleans, 6-1, and Nicholls, 7-0 at home last weekend.
The Vaqueros won 28 of the 32 sets played across the two matches, showing their strengths across all six courts.
Five Vaqueros went 4-0 with two doubles wins and two singles wins, including graduate student
Sam Whitehead, juniors
Ivo Isqueiro and
Santiago Serrano, and sophomores
Loic Young Kriegel and
Michael Chan.
With the wins, UTRGV officially clinched its spot in the SLC Men's Tennis Tournament which will run from April 20-21 in Beaumont, Texas.
No. 11 Baylor – April 12, 6 p.m. – Hurd Tennis Center – Waco, Texas
The Vaqueros will take on the No. 11 Baylor Bears Sunday at 6 p.m. at Hurd Tennis Center. UTRGV is 14-17 all-time against the BU with its last win coming in 1993.
The last time UTRGV earned a point against BU was in 2024 when current junior
Will Roberts picked up his first collegiate win, defeating
Justin Braverman 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10:5).
BU, a member of the Big 12 Conference, is 20-7 this season, and has 11 ranked wins. The Vaqueros will be on-site to watch the Bears clash with No. 4 TCU prior to their matchup.
The Bears are home to the seventh, 36
th, and 46
th ranked singles players in the country.
