RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that freshman
Dior Williams, of the track & field team, is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Williams had a huge day Saturday at the Cactus Cup, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville, earning a pair of victories and meet records.
Williams was part of the 4x100-meter relay team that won the event, set a meet record, and clocked the sixth-fastest time in program history. Williams, alongside redshirt junior
Ashley Lingueno, sophomore
Jizzale Davis, and senior
Kaliyah Poston, finished the race in 45.56.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Williams also hit a new personal-best time of 13.28 to win the event and set the No. 3 time in program history.
Williams currently leads the Southland Conference in the 100-meter hurdles by 0.28 seconds after her blazing 13.28 at the Cactus Cup.
The Vaqueros will return to action quickly as they head to California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational April 16-18.
