RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Friday that tonight's 6:30 p.m. baseball game against Southeastern at UTRGV Baseball Stadium is sold out.
Friday's game will be televised nationally on ESPNU and is 956 Night, presented by Payne Auto Group. This is the first time a UTRGV home game has been televised on a national network and the first time a Southland Conference baseball game has been featured on national TV.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive 956 Night t-shirts. Fans will be treated to a postgame drone show. Some fans will be invited onto the field to take part in the grito contest. Fans will be treated to a pregame performance by Mariachi Aztlán starting when gates open at 5:30 p.m. This game also features the third annual Battle of the Cities in which cities from around the Valley compete in an attendance competition to win a trophy.
UTRGV currently ranks 32
nd in the NCAA is total attendance (52,742) and 26
th in average attendance (3,516). Including tonight's game, UTRGV has already welcomed a program record five crowds of 5,000+ this season.
Fans can still purchase tickets for Saturday's single-admission doubleheader against Southeastern, with games scheduled for 2 and 6:30 p.m., and the three-game series vs. UIW May 1-3, at
UTRGVTickets.com.
On Saturday, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive rally towels, courtesy of Vaquero Outfitters.
