UTRGV Athletics Promotes Erica Hirsch to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday the promotion of Erica Hirsch to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Hirsch oversees the compliance and student-athlete development efforts of the department's 18 Division I programs. As a member of senior staff, she also works collaboratively with units across the department and campus to develop policies and procedures that ensure institutional, conference, and NCAA compliance.

Hirsch is responsible for directing, coordinating, and maintaining a comprehensive compliance program in accordance with university, conference, and NCAA rules, regulations, and procedures. She also serves as the official liaison for athletics to the NCAA Eligibility Center as well as university and UT System legal counsels on administrative matters for the department.

"Erica's promotion is incredibly well deserved," Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator Molly Castner said. "She has made a tremendous impact by improving our processes and bringing organization and efficiency to our compliance unit. She is always looking for ways to support our coaches and student-athletes, consistently going above and beyond to help others succeed. "

Hirsch has been a valued member of UTRGV Athletics since June 2017 and was most recently promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in Sept. 2022. Prior to that promotion, Hirsch officially transitioned to the compliance team as compliance coordinator in May 2019.

Over the last seven years, Hirsch helped UTRGV Athletics succeed through the ever-changing landscape caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hirsch also excelled as a liaison between the university, the athletic staff, and UTRGV's coaches and student-athletes.

"I am incredibly honored and excited for the opportunity to serve as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance," Hirsch said. "I am especially grateful for the support, mentorship, and trust that Chasse and Molly have provided throughout my journey, and for the opportunity to serve our student-athletes and institution in this new role. Compliance plays a vital role in supporting the mission and integrity of our athletics department, and I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with our coaches, staff, and student-athletes to uphold those standards while advancing the success of our programs."

Hirsch returned to Texas in April 2016 after three years working as an administrative assistant with the University of Arizona football team. Her responsibilities included football operations such as handling reimbursements and bowl game travel authorizations, distributing away game information and credentials, coordinating special events, and serving as the main liaison between walk-on players and the recruiting staff.

Hirsch originally moved to Arizona in Jan. 2012 to work as the Sports and Special Events Recreational Leader for the City of Sierra Vista, for which she supervised the city's youth summer sports programs and youth basketball league, created flyers and press releases for events, and coordinated special events.

Hirsch started her career as an Athletic Compliance Office Intern at Texas A&M during the springs of 2009 and 2011. She completed a summer internship in the Houston Dynamo marketing department in 2010 and also assisted with sponsor parties and the live concert at the Super Bowl in Houston in 2017.

Hirsch earned both of her degrees at Texas A&M, including a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in May 2009 and a Master of Science in Sport Management in May 2011.
