CARLSBAD, Calif. – Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team improved by two shots and posted a second round 77 on Saturday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa North Course.
 
Sampedro is tied for 148^th with a two-round total of 156. Sampedro started on the back nine where he posted a three-over 39 and then carded a two-over 38 on the front nine. Sampedro had three birdies in the second round but had five bogeys, one triple bogey, and nine pars.
 
Sampedro will tee off at 4:02 p.m. (CT) off the 10^th hole on Sunday for the third round of the NCAA Championships. 
 
Below is a hole-by-hole breakdown of Sampedro's second round. 
 
Hole 10 - 596 yards Par 5
Sampedro hit driver off the tee and missed right while landing in the fescue. He hit out and into the fairway and left it 145 yards left to the green. He hits an iron just short of the green narrowly missing a green side bunker. He left his chip out of the rough short and then missed par putt from just off the green and tapped in for bogey. 
 
Hole 11 - 355 yards Par 4
Sampedro piped a 2 iron off the tee to the center or the fairway. He then hit a wedge from 115 yards into the wind and left it short of the green. He chipped it onto the green and sank a 20-foot putt for par. 
 
Hole 12 226 yards Par 3
Sampedro hit an iron off the tee and missed right of the green. He then chipped to about five feet and drilled his par putt. 
 
Hole 13 - 428 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit a 3 wood off the tee and into the fairway bunker. He then hit an iron onto front of the green but spun back onto the fringe. His birdie putt was left short for a lengthy par putt, which he sank. 
 
Hole 14 - 517 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit driver off the tee into right side of the fairway. He then hit a 2 iron short of the green, pitched it to about 12 feet, and drilled the par putt.
 
Hole 15 - 371 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit a 2 iron off the tee and missed fairway just right. He then hit an iron out of the rough over the green and into the water. After his drop, the ball came to rest in a divot in an uphill lie and he pitched it onto the green but caught the slope leaving a long putt as he three-putted for triple bogey. 
 
Hole 16 - 162 yards Par 3
Sampedro hit a push fade 9 iron onto the green. He then left his birdie putt on the edge of the hole for tap in par. 
 
Hole 17 - 491 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit driver off the tee into the fairway. With about 170 yards left, he hit a 6 iron to about five feet and sank his birdie putt. 
 
Hole 18 - 597 yards Par 5
Sampedro hit driver off the tee and into the fairway. Then he hit a long iron from about 300 yards leaving him inside 100 yards. He hit a 54-degree wedge to the middle of the green, but it spun back to the front edge leaving him a long birdie putt that he lagged to about three feet before making his par. 
 
Hole 1 - 402 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit a 2 iron off the tee to right side of fairway. He hit an iron from about 160 yards out and left into the green side bunker. Splashed it on and two-putted for bogey. 
 
Hole 2 - 622 yards Par 5
Sampedro hit driver off the tee into left side of fairway. He then hit a 3 wood just shy of the green and chipped to about 6 feet for birdie before leaving his putt left and tapping for par. 
 
Hole 3 - 190 yards Par 3
Sampedro hit a 6 iron to about 10 feet and then just missed right edge for a tap in par. 
 
Hole 4 - 383 yards Par 
Sampedro hit a 2 iron off the tee into the fairway and coming to rest in a divot. He hit an iron from about 125 yards out and put it on the green. He then left his birdie putt short leaving about six feet for par, which he made.
 
Hole 5 - 427 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit a 3 wood to the middle of the fairway then hit his second shot to the middle of the green before making a downhill sliding left putt for birdie. 
 
Hole 6 - 571 yards Par 5
Sampedro hit driver off the tee to the right edge of the fairway. He then hit a 3 wood into the rough around the fairway bunker. He punched it out and saw his shot roll through the green. Then his chip rolled down the slope through the green and into the fairway. Then, he pitched it to about three feet for a tap in bogey. 
 
Hole 7 - 521 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit driver off the tee to about 184 yards out. He left his second shot short and right of the green. He then chipped it to the middle of the green and two-putted for bogey.
 
Hole 8 - 203 yards Par 3
Sampedro hit a pitching wedge off the tee to about six feet. He then sank his birdie putt to move back to four over on the round.
 
Hole 9 - 426 yards Par 4
Sampedro hit driver off the tee and missed the fairway right landing in the fescue. He then muscled it out and put it on the back of the green. He then three-putted for bogey to close out the day at five-over par.
