SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A small group of track & field student-athletes will be representing The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros Sunday at the Trinity Last Chance Meet hosted by Trinity (TX) at the Trinity Multi-Purpose Stadium in San Antonio.
Head track & field/cross country coach
Shareese Hicks has 10 Vaqueros, six men and four women, competing in the late meet to earn some qualifying marks. Some Vaqueros are trying to move up the NCAA West qualifying list – the top 48 ranked student-athletes in individual events will make the preliminary meet, along with the top 24 relay teams, to try and punch a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Other Vaqueros are fighting for times or marks to earn a spot on UTRGV's travel roster for next week's Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
Action begins at 12 p.m. Sunday with field events and track events will get underway at 5 p.m. Participating teams include the hosting Trinity Tigers, Concordia, East Texas Baptist, Hardin-Simmons, LeTourneau, McMurry, Southwestern, Schreiner, St. Thomas (TX), and Texas Lutheran.
