RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics helped unveil the newly remodeled H-E-B on Freddy Gonzalez on Saturday with student-athletes, coaches, and staff on hand.
 
The unveiling highlighted the strong and growing partnership between UTRGV Athletics and H-E-B, two organizations committed to supporting student-athlete success and serving communities across the Rio Grande Valley. 
 
Through collaborative initiatives and shared community engagement efforts, the partnership continues to create meaningful connections with Vaqueros fans throughout the region.


 
Additionally, Vaqueros BBQ Sauce, a smoked serrano gourmet barbecue sauce, is now available at H-E-B throughout the Rio Grande Valley. 
 
UTRGV Athletics and The Jank partnered to create the Vaqueros BBQ Sauce back in 2024. The Jank donates a portion of the proceeds from sales of Vaqueros BBQ Sauce to provide scholarships and support community initiatives. 
 
Lamar Jones, a talented musician who lives in Weslaco, unexpectedly found his calling making barbecue sauce in 2015 after winning the 2014 Innovation Grant from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. His products through The Jank are now available at H-E-B locations Valley-wide.
