BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team is one shot shy of the lead at the Lady Clerico after playing two rounds Monday at Hillcrest Country Club.
The Vaqueros posted a two-round score of 604, trailing only Houston Christian (603) and are tied with Lamar and Oral Roberts for second place. UTRGV leads UT Arlington (609), East Texas A&M (612), Drake (643), and Stephen F. Austin (656).
The Vaqueros used a team effort to remain within striking distance of the Huskies as
four UTRGV golfers finished inside the top 15 in the 44-person field.
Junior
Miriam Barcalova and freshman
Nerea Garrido Fernandez finished in a tie for ninth with a two-round score of 151. Barcalova posted a 75 in the first and 76 in the second while Garrido Fernandez carded a 77 in the first and a UTRGV-best 74 in the second.
Freshman
Kanyanat Kamphoo had the best UTRGV score in the first round, carding a 74, and followed up that performance with a 79 in the second. Meanwhile, senior
Natalia Rodriguez posted a 77 in the first and 76 in the second. Both Kamphoo and Rodriguez sit in a tie for 14
th with two-round scores of 153.
Freshman
Avery Glanzer carded an 83 in the first round before turning in a solid 75 in the second to help the Vaqueros to their best round as a team. Her two-round score of 158 puts her in 28
th place.
The Vaqueros will look to capture the Lady Clerico championship when they return to the course for the final round on Tuesday. Fans can follow along through live scoring
